Former POW Jessica Lynch pregnant

MORGANTOWN, W.Va., Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Jessica Lynch, the West Virginia soldier wounded and taken prisoner by Iraqis in 2003, is pregnant.

Lynch is a sophomore at the University of West Virginia. She announced her pregnancy in an e-mail to television journalist Diane Sawyer, People magazine said.

"I was not sure if this could ever happen for me after all of the injuries and physical trauma I suffered," Lynch said in the e-mail, which was released by a publicist. "Learning to walk again and coping with the internal injuries that I still deal with pale in comparison to the tremendous joy of carrying this child."

The child's father is Wes Robinson, a factory worker Lynch was introduced to by friends. She told Sawyer she and Robinson are busy looking for a house.

Lynch was a 19-year-old Army supply clerk when she was captured on March 23, 2003, after her unit took a wrong turn. She was freed on April 1 by a unit that raided the Iraqi hospital where she was a patient.
