WASHINGTON, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- A Hurricane Katrina survivor traveled to the White House Wednesday to remind that the recovery in the U.S. Gulf Coast is not complete.
Rockey Vaccarella, a resident of St. Bernard Parish in Louisiana, met with U.S. President George Bush because, the president said, Vaccarella wanted to make it clear people along the Gulf Coast were still suffering.
Bush first met Vaccarella when the president was touring areas hit last year by Hurricane Katrina. Since then the U.S. government has allocated more than $110 billion to relief, but Bush admitted there were still "bureaucratic hurdles."
Vaccarella thanked Bush for trailers used as emergency housing and said, "We have things that are necessities that we can live upon."
"But now, I wanted to remind the president that the job's not done, and he knows that. And I just don't want the government and President Bush to forget about us," Vaccarella said.
Vaccarella also said he wished Bush was eligible for a third term as president.
"If we had this president for another four years, I think we'd be great," Vaccarella said. "But we're going to move on."
