INDIANAPOLIS, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels has asked the federal government to change six Indiana counties from the Central Time Zone to Eastern time.
Daniels' letter to federal transportation officials followed complaints from business and community leaders in Daviess, Dubois, Knox, Martin, Pike and Pulaski counties that the recent switch to Central time caused problems for businesses dealing in both time zones, the Indianapolis Star Tribune reported Tuesday.
"By issuing a final rule in favor of this change, you will put still more of the State of Indiana on one time zone than ever before," Daniels said in the letter.
Only 18 of the 92 counties in Indiana run on Central time, while the remainder observe Eastern time.
"When the majority of the state is on Eastern time, that's the time you want to be on," said Jasper Mayor William Schmitt of in Dubois County.
