Activist Sheehan hospitalized in Texas

WACO, Texas, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Peace activist Cindy Sheehan has been hospitalized for exhaustion and dehydration in Waco, Texas, it was reported Saturday.

Sheehan's assistant, Tiffany Burns, said the activist went to the emergency room Thursday after speaking at a national convention of the Veterans for Peace, the Waco Tribune-Herald reported. Burns said Sheehan went back to the hospital Friday on the advice of doctors and was expected to be released Saturday.

A Providence Health Center nursing supervisor said Sheehan was probably in stable condition Friday evening, but she had not seen an official report.

Sheehan, who had been on an all-liquid diet as part of a plan to fast until World Peace Day next month, also underwent a dilation and curettage procedure, which features a biopsy of scrapings from the lining of the uterus, after she experienced heavy bleeding.
