Russia terror attacks down

MOSCOW, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- Russia says terrorist attacks in the first half of 2006 fell 20 percent from the same period last year, thanks to its new anti-terror measures.

Deputy Interior Minister Andrei Novikov said 68 terrorist attacks were recorded in the current January to June period, RIA Novosti reported Thursday.

Novikov said about 19,000 other crimes were solved in January to June 2006 and 6,500 people involved in those crimes had been identified. In economic crimes, the minister said 3,500 of them had been resolved and about 200 suspects were brought to justice, but he gave no details.
