Knicks doc fires secretary after treatment

NEW YORK, July 23 (UPI) -- A medical secretary for New York Knicks surgeon Dr. W. Norman Scott alleges she was abruptly fired when she returned to work after breast cancer treatment.

Emelinda DeVito, 26, charged she got the boot from her job in the cruelest manner and was shocked when -- during a phone call from the office administrator -- she was coldly asked: "Well, are they going to give you a wig for work?"

DeVito's lawyer, Jeffrey Brown, filed a complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in May in anticipation of filing a federal suit "seeking millions," said the New York Post.

DeVito said she was blindsided by her alleged dismissal from Insall, Scott & Kelly Clinic on East 85th Street -- where Scott is director -- believing she would return to work after chemotherapy.

When she returned Dec. 1, 2005, the office administrator allegedly "informed Emelinda that her job no longer existed," Brown said.
