Hayden names new CIA No. 3, adjusts duties

WASHINGTON, July 12 (UPI) -- CIA Director Michael Hayden has named a new man to the agency's No. 3 spot, and said he is making changes to that position's job description.

Hayden selected Michael Morell as the third highest agency official after himself and deputy Stephen Kappes, The Washington Post reported.

Morell is a veteran in intelligence analysis and a former executive assistant to former Director George Tenet. Most recently, he has worked at the National Counterterrorism Center, where he was deputy director for intelligence.

Because Director of National Intelligence John Negroponte has replaced the CIA as the lead agency of all intelligence groups, Hayden said he will be changing some of the responsibilities of the No. 3 post to reflect that, the report said.

Morell's first task will be to review the reporting relationships among the leadership and see what changes need to be made, Hayden said.
