Elderly Thai king injured in fall

BANGKOK, July 9 (UPI) -- King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand has slipped while walking, injuring his back, shoulder and ribs.

Sources say the 79-year old king fell while walking in front of a royal residence in Bangkok on June 24, China's Xinhua news agency reported. The king is still recuperating and has been advised against attending any public activities.

Doctors told Xinhua that the king sustained injuries on his back and shoulder, as well as a small crack on his fourth right rib.

Last month, Thailand held an extravagant celebration marking the king's 60th year on the throne.
