PRAGUE, Czech Republic, June 29 (UPI) -- Czech leftist Prime Minister Jiri Paroubek is ready to resign to make way for a new rightist government, Prague Radio said Thursday.
Wednesday, Paroubek said he will resign after the Cabinet meets Monday but suggested he may try to form his own new government in case a newly formed center-right coaltion fails to win approval in Parliament's lower house.
In general elections June 2-3, the rightist Civic Democratic Party of Mirek Topolanek won 81 seats, most of all parties in the 200-deputy lower house, but not enough to form a government without coalition supporters.
Topolanek's conservative Civic Democrats have now forged a coalition with 13 deputies of the Christian Democrats, and six deputies of the Green party, making a total of 100 seats.
Paroubek's Social Democrats won 74 seats and, with the Communists' 26 seats, the leftist coalition collected 100 seats.
Following Paroubek's resignation Monday, conservative President Vaclav Klaus will appoint Topolanek as the new prime minister, although his coalition lacks a majority in the lower house.
Klaus described the rightist coalition led by Topolanek as "the most promising post-election scenario," Prague Radio said.
