Carlos the Jackal sues arresting cop

PARIS, June 28 (UPI) -- The criminal mastermind known as Carlos the Jackal is suing the French agent who arrested him in Sudan for kidnapping him on foreign soil.

Now serving life sentences in Paris for the killings of two French agents and an informer, the man whose real name is Ilich Ramirez Sanchez claims France had no jurisdiction to arrest, detain and take him from Sudan, where he was captured in 1994, the BBC reported.

The 56-year-old Venezuelan citizen gained international notoriety as a mastermind of bombings, assassinations and hostage-takings, the BBC said.

The lawsuit came after a review of the career of Gen. Philippe Rondot was published in a newspaper. Rondot was in Sudan, and was the head of the French foreign intelligence agency at the time, and the article described how he was the one who spotted the Jackal and orchestrated his arrest.
