Yates sobs at video of her kids' deaths

HOUSTON, June 27 (UPI) -- Andrea Yates broke into sobs in the second day of testimony at her Houston retrial for killing her children at their home in 2001.

Yates, 41, is charged with capital murder. Her 2002 murder conviction was thrown out by an appeals court that found erroneous testimony from a prosecution psychiatrist prejudiced the case. Yates is charged with the murder of three of her five children, a prosecution tactic allowing a second trial if she is acquitted or found not guilty by reason of insanity.

Prosecutors Tuesday showed 15 minutes of police video, featuring her children's bodies lying side-by-side on a bed, covered with a red comforter. Yates stifled a sob as the footage was played on two large-screen televisions, the Houston Chronicle reported.
