Clinton earns big from speeches

WASHINGTON, June 15 (UPI) -- Former President Bill Clinton's speaking engagements worldwide brought him $7.5 million in 2005, up sharply from $875,000 in 2004, reports CNN.

Quoting annual financial disclosures filed by his wife, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., the report, explaining the huge jump in year-to-year earnings, said Bill Clinton had spent much of 2004 writing and promoting memoirs and recuperating from heart bypass surgery. He had earned $9.5 million in speaking fees in 2002.

CNN reported noted other former presidents also commanded hefty speaking fees. In case of Clinton, he is required to make such disclosures because his wife is a U.S. senator.

The disclosures showed Clinton's 43 speaking tours in 2005 took him to 14 countries.

The Clintons together reported owning assets valued between $10 million and $50 million, the report said.
