Serbia nabs motorway toll fraud ring

BELGRADE, Serbia, June 2 (UPI) -- Police have arrested 43 people on suspicion of embezzling millions of dollars in toll money on Serbia's main motorway.

Serbia's Investment Minister Velimir Ilic said police were planning more arrests in a crackdown on a large group of people who worked on toll gates over the past six years on the highway leading from Belgrade to the south of the country, the Beta news agency reported Friday.

Media reports in Belgrade speculate that as much as $84 million may have been stolen.
