Woman guilty in deaths of 8 newborns

FRANKFURT, Germany, June 1 (UPI) -- A German woman who said she was too drunk to remember their births has been found guilty in the deaths of eight of her newborn babies.

Sabine Hilschenz, 40, was convicted of manslaughter in a Frankfurt court and sentenced to a maximum 15 years in prison, the BBC said Thursday. A ninth baby also died but that occurred too long ago to be prosecuted now, reports said.

Authorities said bodies were found in a fish tank and in flower pots and buckets in her parents' garden in a village near the Polish border. It was thought the babies were born between 1988 and 1998.

Hilschenz reportedly told investigators she did not harm the babies but let them die after giving birth alone.
