VLADIVOSTOK, Russia, May 21 (UPI) -- Russia Sunday marked the 275th anniversary of its first naval base and the Russian Pacific Fleet that has guarded its eastern shores.

RIA Novosti reports events celebrating the fleet's creation will take place in the Maritime Territory, the Kamchatka Peninsula and other areas.

The Russian Senate established the country's first permanent Far East naval base on May 21, 1731, called the Sea of Okhotsk military flotilla.

That fleet turned into the Russian Pacific Fleet which boasts numerous military vehicles including nuclear submarines and anti-submarine and airplane vehicles as well as a Coast Guard.
