KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, May 20 (UPI) -- One U.S. soldier was killed and six wounded in southern Afghanistan Friday when they "encountered enemy forces," the U.S. military said.
Afghan and U.S. troops were on a joint patrol in the Cahar Cineh District of Uruzgan Province when fighting broke out, CNN reported. The wounded were taken to a nearby medical facility.
The soldiers' names are being withheld until families have been notified.
Dozens have been killed in battles between troops and Taliban fighters during the last week.
