SKOWHEGAN, Maine, May 10 (UPI) -- A Maine mother has pleaded not guilty to charges she showed her daughter and two friends how to make cookies with a laxative in them.
Forty-three year-old Julie E. Hunt of Skowhegan was arrested and charged with assault and violating probation for allegedly passing on the Ex-Lax in the cookie mix recipe.
The Waterville Morning Sentinel reports four seventh and eighth graders at Carrabec Community School got sick from eating the cookies.
The cookies were put on the teacher's desk April 10 with a note that said, "We made these cookies just for you, hope you enjoy them."
The teacher, who reportedly gave one of the baking girls a bad grade, shared them with a class instead.
The principal of the school overheard the girls allegedly talking about the cookies and alerted police, the newspaper said.
The girls were suspended from school but haven't been charged.
State Police Lt. Dale Lancaster said, "If you assist children with perpetrating these kinds of crimes, you will be charged."
