KABUL, Afghanistan, May 2 (UPI) -- A suspected suicide bomber in Afghanistan killed himself and another person in a car blast Tuesday near Kabul.
The attack occurred on a road between Kabul and a U.S. military base, officials told the Middle East Times.
An Afghan Interior Ministry spokesman said initial investigations showed the attacker had been plotting a "terrorist attack" in the capital but the bomb went off too soon.
"He died when his car -- we believe prematurely -- exploded on his way to Kabul. One horse-cart driver and his horse also died," the spokesman said. The road is used by coalition troops traveling between Kabul and the Bagram airfield, 30 miles north, the report said.
Yousuf Ahmadi, who claims to speak for the Taliban, claimed responsibility for the attack and said it was supposed to be against Canadian troops, the report said.
