DES MOINES, Iowa, May 1 (UPI) -- Rudolph Giuliani appeared Monday at a fundraiser for an Iowa congressman, his first visit to the state since 2004.
The former New York City mayor is mulling a presidential run. Iowa, with its first-in-the-country caucuses, is a key state.
Giuliani also made a stop with a Republican gubernatorial candidate and at a party fundraising event in Des Moines.
"I've got a lot of places to go and a lot of people to talk to and a long process of figuring out whether it makes sense to run for president in 2008," Giuliani told The New York Times. "I don't know the answer to that yet. My effort this year will be to help Republicans get elected, and then, quite honestly, as part of it, saying to myself, does it look like I have a chance in 2008? And make that decision after the 2006 election."
Giuliani said there should be room in the Republican party for someone with moderate views on abortion.
