NEW ORLEANS, April 12 (UPI) -- Gulf Coast homes ruined by last fall's hurricanes and repaired with flood insurance or federal money will have to be raised three-feet above flood elevations.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency released advisory flood maps Wednesday, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

The maps are like guidelines for how to allocate rebuilding funds in the area. New or reconstructed homes within the New Orleans-area levee system that sustained more than 50-percent damage have to be rebuilt three feet above flood grade.
Tens of thousands of homes are expected to be affected by the ruling.
