CAMDEN, N.J., April 7 (UPI) -- Four South Jersey teenagers have been charged with planning a Columbine-style massacre at a suburban high school.
The boys, all aged 14 to 16, are currently being held as juveniles on charges that include conspiracy to commit murder and terrorism. Acting Camden County Prosecutor James Lynch told the Philadelphia Inquirer that he has not yet decided whether to ask a judge to have them charged as adults.
The four allegedly planned a lunch-time massacre in the cafeteria at Winslow Township High School. Two sophomores, Nick Lotierzo and Chuck Sigwart, said they heard rumors but did not know whether they were serious.
"We heard it was going to be like Columbine," Sigwart told the Camden Courier-Post. "We heard they were going to do it Friday at the pep rally and then it was supposed to be in the cafeteria."
Sigwart said one rumor was that the killings were planned for April 20, the seventh anniversary of the massacre at Columbine High School in Colorado. Two teenagers killed 12 students and a teacher before taking their own lives.
Only three of the accused teens are students at Winslow. The fourth goes to Hammonton High School, several miles away.
