BELGRADE, Serbia, April 4 (UPI) -- A Serbia-Montenegro minister said Belgrade must not miss a chance to hand over war-crimes suspect Ratko Mladic to the U.N. tribunal.
Rasim Ljajic, the human and minority rights minister in charge of the state union's cooperation with the tribunal in The Hague, told reporters Serbia-Montenegro should hand over Mladic, Bosnian Serb military leader, to the tribunal.
On March 31, the Belgrade government was given 30 days to arrest Mladic, after Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica assured The Hague tribunal and the European Union Mladic will be handed over to the tribunal.
Mladic is sought on genocide and crimes against humanity charges in the former Yugoslavia in 1991-95.
Kostunica's agreement to arrest Mladic paved the way for planned talks April 5 on Serbia's accession to the EU.
Ljajic outlined it is essential Belgrade arrests Mladic as it promised, to avoid ruining its international credibility, Belgrade Radio said.
