ZARANJ, Afghanistan, April 3 (UPI) -- Insurgents in southern Afghanistan have fatally shot a Turkish engineer and burned his body, officials said Monday.
It was the second incident of a foreign road construction worker being attacked in one week.
The engineer, who was working on a road reconstruction project, was driving with three bodyguards in Nimroz province Sunday, when suspected Taliban stopped his car and killed him, The News International of Pakistan reported.
Ghulam Dastageer Azad, governor of Nimroz, said, "They pulled him out, shot him and burned his body."
The attackers released the three guards after taking their weapons, Azad said.
Insurgent assaults have increased recently, especially in southern Afghanistan.
