BUENOS AIRES, March 23 (UPI) -- Argentina has decided to open to the public all its archives pertaining to the former military dictatorship in which some 30,000 were killed or disappeared.

The government said there would be unrestricted access to all files pertaining to Argentina's so-called "Dirty War," La Nacion reported Thursday.

In recent years, Argentine President Nestor Kirchner has pushed for the dismissal and prosecution of those military leaders who participated in human rights violations during the 1976-1983 military dictatorship.

Previous Argentine leaders sought to suppress inquiries into the former regime despite calls from family and friends of its victims for full government disclosure.
