HARTFORD, Conn., March 14 (UPI) -- A Connecticut judge has ruled that a state legislative committee can subpoena testimony from former Gov. John Rowland.

Rowland is under home confinement after serving a short federal prison term for taking bribes from contractors. The legislature has been investigating his employment after his resignation, the Hartford Courant reported.

The Klewin Building Co., which received millions of dollars in state contracts, paid Rowland $5,000 a month as a consultant. He was also hired by the National Science Center Foundation, set up by a longtime supporter, former United Technologies chairman Harry Gray.

Democratic state Rep. Christopher Caruso said the Legislature is considering a bill that would bar any former governor from lobbying for a year after leaving office.

"We want to see what he was thinking at the time," Caruso said Monday. "He's the one who received the employment. Was it something that he sought? Was it something that the companies offered to him?"
