SHANGHAI, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- Shanghai police have arrested a human rights activist after she allowed a U.S. diplomat to use her home to meet with about a dozen other activists.
Police arrested Fu Yuxia when she went to visit her brother Wednesday evening, two days after the meeting with a U.S. consular official, Human Rights in China said. The group did not reveal the diplomat's name.
Fu had not been released 24 hours later, the South China Morning Post reported Friday.
Her family was given a document saying she had violated laws concerning "letters and visits." The term refers to the government channel for lodging complaints.
Fu has petitioned the government repeatedly for redress in cases of forced eviction and relocation.
The rights group said Fu had regular contacts with the U.S. Consulate, which declined to comment on her case.
Police apparently did not detain any of other participants of the Monday meeting.
Surveillance of known dissidents has been stepped up ahead of the annual meeting of the National People's Congress in Beijing next month, the report said.
