2 women dead in U.S. attack in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- Two Pakistani women were killed by U.S. rockets fired from Afghanistan in apparent retaliation for an attack on a U.S. base.

The BBC reports a U.S. official confirmed its forces did fire into Pakistan's North Waziristan region but said nothing about the deaths.

Four children were reported injured in the attack.

U.S. military spokesman Mike Cody said troops at the Khost security post were attacked from Pakistan Saturday.

This is the third time this year U.S. forces from Afghanistan fired at suspected insurgents in Pakistan. The first two, aimed at suspected al-Qaida leaders, were condemned by Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf.

Despite a relative of top al-Qaida official Ayman al-Zawahiri being killed in the attack, innocent villagers have died as well.

Pakistan doesn't allow U.S. troops to operate on its land.
