Humane society sues Florida dog operation

PEMBROOK PINES, Fla., Feb. 9 (UPI) -- The Humane Society of the United States Thursday sued a south Florida puppy dealer for allegedly defrauding customers.

The suit accuses the Wizard of Claws of misrepresenting the origin of the puppies and of selling animals with a wide array of health problems, including contagious diseases and genetic disorders.

"Wizard of Claws is using dishonest, underhanded sales tactics to dupe its customers into supporting the cruel trade in puppy mill dogs," said Wayne Pacelle, president and chief executive officer of The Humane Society of the United States. "Thanks to the Internet, this operation is distributing puppy mill dogs not just in southern Florida, but all over the country."

The suit alleges the Wizard of Claws misrepresents its puppies as coming from a "few select breeders" rather than the puppy mills from where they actually originate.

The suit seeks a court order prohibiting Wizard of Claws from engaging in deceptive business practices.
