Plenty of bedroom toys for British kids

LONDON, Feb. 1 (UPI) -- A glut of entertainment in the bedrooms of British children has kids staying inside and in their rooms more.

The BBC reports children are spending less time outside than previous generations.

A study by Lloyds TSB Insurance found 70 percent of British children have a TV in their bedroom, 60 percent have video games there, 50 percent have a DVD player and 13 percent have digital or satellite television.

Recent studies have shown children will turn towards gadgets in their rooms for entertainment instead of other things like playing outside or with other kids.

The Lloyds study found a third of kids have a computer and 10 percent have broadband internet access in their room.

Parents in the study didn't see anything wrong with that.

Less than 1 percent said they were spoiling their kids with the technology and 50 percent said their children either needed it or deserved it.

Twenty-five percent called the bedroom entertainment a deterrent to getting into trouble.
