MIAMI, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- The family of missing cruise ship passenger George Smith has hired a medical examiner to investigate his disappearance on a honeymoon cruise last July.
George and Jennifer Smith had been aboard the Royal Caribbean ship Brilliance of the Seas for eight days when Smith went missing.
In an interview with ABC's "Primetime," family members said they think Smith was killed as the ship sailed to Turkey. The Connecticut couple were drinking heavily and Smith was taken back to his cabin by four young men late on July 4.
"My brother is dead and missing and Royal Caribbean felt that they didn't need to tell us about what happened on that boat," Bree Smith, George Smith's sister, told "Primetime."
Blood was found on a white metal overhang above a lifeboat and inside Smith's cabin after ship security found Jennifer Smith passed out in a corridor at 4:30 a.m. and took her to the empty cabin.
Royal Caribbean said Turkish police conducted a "full forensic investigation" before the ship sailed for Italy.
