Iran blocks BBC Persian Web site

TEHRAN, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- The BBC reports that the government of Iran has blocked access to its Persian-language Web site.

The site is the most popular of the 30 the BBC operates in languages other than English. The site gets about 30 million page impressions a month, half from inside Iran.

Iranians still have access to radio broadcasts in English and Persian and to BBC's English-language Web site.

The BBC said it would talk to Iranian authorities about ending the blockade. It has received no official explanation on why it was imposed.
