Kenyan ministers accused of corruption

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- Kenya's former anti-corruption chief accuses several cabinet ministers of involvement in multimillion-dollar scams.

In a letter sent to President Mwai Kibaki, John Githongo said that he had "incontrovertible material evidence" of high-level corruption by several members of the president's inner circle, The Times of London reported.

The 91-page report suggests the president had full knowledge of his ministers' alleged involvement in graft but took no action, the newspaper said.

The leaked report contains allegations against Finance Minister David Mwararia, Justice Minister Kiraitu Murungi, Vice-President Moody Awori and former Transport Minister Chris Murungaru.

Raila Odinga, head of the opposition Liberal Democratic Party, and Maina Kiai, chairman of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights, are urging the ministers to resign, the newspaper said.
