Mass. governor spent $300k on trips

BOSTON, Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney says the more than $300,000 spent from his campaign fund on luxury suites, booze and private jets across the country is legal.

Recently disclosed campaign finance reports show the unofficial 2008 Republican presidential candidate is sparing no expense on the campaign trail, the Boston Herald reported.

Federal laws allow politicians to use state campaign funds for national political trips up until they officially become candidates for federal office.

Eric Fehrnstrom, a spokesman for Romney, said the governor's spending hasn't violated any campaign finance or ethics rules.

Among the charges are $5,200 in baseball tickets; $11,000 on a private jet; $617 on alcohol; and $12,615 on airfare, hotels and meals at Super Bowl XXXIX in Jacksonville, Fla.

Members of the Massachusetts Democratic Party are blasting Romney for the expenses as proof he doesn't care about the state's economy.
