FRANKFURT, Germany, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- A new trial has begun in Germany for an admitted cannibal who killed and ate a man who allegedly volunteered.
Armin Meiwes was convicted of manslaughter two years ago but an appellate court ordered a new trial after prosecutors argued that he should have been convicted of murder because the killing was for sexual gratification.
On Thursday, the prosecution made the same argument to a three-judge panel, the BBC reported.
Meiwes and his victim met via the Internet. During his first trial, he described butchering the man and freezing him.
On another front, defense lawyers are trying to keep a movie based on the killing from opening in Germany. A German production company is working on another film with Meiwes' cooperation.
