RICHMOND, Va., Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Anne Holton, Virginia's new first lady, is returning to her childhood home.
Holton, wife of Gov.-elect Tim Kaine, lived in the governor's mansion from 1970 to 1974 when her father, Linwood Holton, was governor. She remembers selling lemonade to tourists and sliding down marble balustrades in the South Portico in her pajamas, the Virginia Pilot reported.
She hopes she can follow her parents' example and maintain a normal family life during her second stint in the mansion.
Holton is the second person in the state's history to be both daughter and wife of governors. The first was Thomas Jefferson's daughter, Martha, wife of Gov. Thomas Mann Randolph.
Because the governor's mansion did not exist in Jefferson's time, Holton is the first person to put in two stints in the house.
