New Bolivian president to cut pay in half

LA PAZ, Bolivia, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- Bolivian President-elect Evo Morales has decided to cut his own salary in half once he enters office next month, La Razon newspaper reported.

The controversial leftist leader said his Cabinet and federal lawmakers can also expect cuts in salaries and expenses saying that officials should suffer the same burden as others living in South America's poorest country.

He has also called for the legalization of the production of coca, the plant from which cocaine is made.
