SYDNEY, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Hundreds of police officers patrolled some Sydney suburbs trying to prevent a third night of violence that began with a gathering of "white Australians."
Many families reportedly are thinking seriously about moving out of Cronulla, where they had enjoyed a trouble-free beachside life.
"I'm going to be very wary now," construction supervisor Howard Beale told the Melbourne Herald-Sun. "You have to think about what you do and where you go and when you do it. My daughter only works nearby but she won't be walking home any more."
The trouble in Cronulla began Sunday when thousands of people assembled on the beach, lured there by a text message urging them to take it back from people of Middle Eastern descent. A few hundred in the crowd began attacking people of Middle Eastern appearance.
Monday night, young people from immigrant families descended on Cronulla. Beale told the newspaper his work truck was set on fire, two cars damaged and a shovel thrown through a window.
