Cameron to lead Tories

LONDON, Dec. 6 (UPI) -- Britain's Conservatives Tuesday named David Cameron their leader in a vote that that gave him a nearly 2-to-1 edge over rival David Davis.

Cameron won 134,446 votes to Davis' 64,398 to become the fourth leader of his party since 1997, the London Evening Standard reported. Cameron has promised a new style of politics to rekindle interest among apathetic voters.

"I will do it with everything I have, to the best of my ability for my party and for my country," he said after his selection was announced at the London Royal Academy of Arts by Michael Spicer, who is chairman of the 1922 committee.

"I want us to give to this country a modern, compassionate Conservatism that is right for our times and right for our country."
