ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- There are conflicting accounts over the possible U.S. role in the explosion that killed an al-Qaida leader in Pakistan.
Abu Hamza Rabia was killed Dec. 1 near Mir Ali, Radio Free Europe reports.
The official Pakistani story is that Rabia and five others were killed when bomb-making materials in the home were accidentally ignited. But witnesses and anonymous intelligence officials said the house was attacked with missiles from a flying vehicle.
The officials said the United States played a role in finding Rabia.
The flying vehicle could have been an unmanned U.S. Predator drone, which has been used before in taking out terrorist suspects.
Rabia was believed to be an international operations manager of al-Qaida.
