NEW YORK, Nov. 29 (UPI) -- The youngest daughter of Samsung Group Chairman Lee Kun-hee -- 26-year-old Lee Yoon-hyung -- committed suicide in her upscale New York apartment, reports said.
While Samsung at first reported that Lee Yoon-hyung died in a car crash, a company spokesman confirmed that Lee hung herself with an electrical cord, The New York Times reported.
Lee's boyfriend Soobin Shin and another friend found Lee's body early Saturday.
A Korean news agency reported that Lee, one of the richest women in Korea, had been depressed recently.
Lee's death "adds to a series of woes" for the world's largest computer chip maker, The Korea Herald reported.
In recent cases, Samsung agreed to pay a $300 million fine on U.S. charges of price fixing. Separately, a Seoul court ruled Samsung erred in transactions involving Lee, her two sisters and brother.
A Samsung spokesman said there was no intent to mislead in saying Lee died in a car crash.
The spokesman said the Samsung chairman -- in the United States for cancer tests -- was unavailable for comment.
