NKoreans may have abducted Thai woman

BANGKOK, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- Alerted by an article written by an American, the family of a Thailand woman thinks the woman, missing since 1978, was kidnapped by North Koreans.

The Thai government is investigating the claim about Anocha Panjoy, whose family thinks she is still in North Korea, reports the BBC. The article was written by Charles Jenkins, a U.S. military deserter who was allowed to leave North Korea after living there since 1965.

North Korea, which has admitted to kidnapping Japanese and South Koreans, has "informally denied" abducting the Thai woman, said Thailand's Foreign minister.

Panjoy, 51, failed to return home after she traveled to Macao for work in 1978, says Thailand's TNA news agency. Her family contacted authorities after seeing a picture accompanying Jenkins' article in a Japanese newspaper that they said resembled her. Thai authorities plan to contact Jenkins.
