Britain lifts Moon ban

LONDON, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Britain has lifted a ban on the Rev. Sun Myung Moon, founder of the Unification Church, ending a 10-year banishment.

Moon's 1995 exclusion order came amid a controversy over membership methods, the Times of London said. The Home Office reiterated the ban in 2003.

It is thought that Moon, 86, has been granted a 24-hour visa and will be delivering a lecture in London Saturday as part of a world tour.

An audience of about 1,000 of his followers, plus assorted theologians and academics, is expected to hear his lecture on world peace.

Home Secretary Charles Clarke said he considered excluding him "but I decided that at his age there was not a good enough reason."

Moon also is the founder of News World Communications, which owns United Press International.
