Billy Graham 'at peace' after last crusade

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Evangelist Billy Graham, whose 87th birthday is Monday, is "at peace" with the end of his crusades, his organization said Friday.

"Ruth and I have enjoyed our time together these last few months, and we both feel at peace about the decision to have the New York meetings be our last," Graham said in a statement. "We know that God can still use us to reach people with the Gospel message in other ways, and we look forward to seeing how He will do so."

Graham held his final crusade at June 24-26 Flushing Meadows Corona Park in New York. He began his evangelistic mission in 1949 with an eight-week crusade in Los Angeles.

He remains on the board of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association while his son, Franklin, has taken over many of his public responsibilities.
