Democrats after Rove's job

WASHINGTON, Oct. 31 (UPI) -- Democrats are pressing U.S. President George W. Bush to dismiss his Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove in the wake of the indictment of I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby.

As Republicans sought to limit the political damage from the indictment of Libby, the chief of staff of Vice President Dick Cheney, Democrats sought full accounting from the White House about Cheney's role in the outing of CIA operative Valerie Plame, reports The Washington Post.

Democrats, led by Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, used the Sunday TV talk shows to portray the indictment of Libby as part of what they consider a broader pattern of unethical -- if not illegal -- conduct by the Bush administration, the Post reported.

In response, Republicans did not defend Libby but maintained that the lack of other indictments indicated there was no conspiracy in the White House to punish an administration critic by identifying his wife as a CIA operative.

Separately, two legal sources familiar with the special counsel's indictment of Libby believe Rove also remains in significant danger.
