Colombia: Intelligence head quits

BOGOTA, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- Colombia's intelligence chief has resigned following allegations his agency was infiltrated by right-wing paramilitaries.

The resignation of Jorge Noguera was reportedly accepted by President Alvaro Uribe, though the now ex-head of the Administrative Security Department, or DAS, denied the allegations, El Tempos newspaper reported Wednesday.

DAS Deputy Director Jose Miguel Narvaez was fired Tuesday by Uribe.

Officers at the DAS were reportedly caught on tape making plans to sell information to the paramilitaries.

Narvaez reportedly ordered the recording hoping to frame his boss, Noguera, El Tiempo reported. The former deputy denied the accusation.
