Iraqi attacks kill 10, 4 police officers

BAGHDAD, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- A series of bomb blasts and shootings in Iraq killed 10 people Sunday, including four police officers and a Shiite cleric.

There were 32 people wounded, including five U.S. soldiers, CNN reported.

One attack in Tikrit, former president Saddam Hussein's native city, killed Lt. Col. Haitham Akram and his three sons. His wife was wounded in the explosions at their home.

Two police officers and another person were killed and two wounded officers wounded when a bomb exploded outside a movie theater in Baghdad.

In Baquba, north of Baghdad, an off-duty police officer was gunned down in a market. Police said that 1st Lt. Falih Hassan Khalil was not in uniform at the time. Gunmen also killed Sheik Ahmed Abdul Rahman, a Shiite cleric, in a town near Baquba.

In Kirkuk, a bomb targeting a U.S. convoy killed one civilian and wounded seven others. The U.S. soldiers were wounded by a series of car bombs in Baghdad.
