Prison inmate a suspected serial killer

SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 20 (UPI) -- A California prison inmate is alleged to be a serial killer responsible for two murders in San Jose and one in San Francisco.

Police said Tuesday Luis Aguilar Perez -- now in prison for sexually assaulting and trying to kill a 14-year-old San Francisco girl -- has also been charged with killing Florence Ruth Berrospe and Nestora McCune, the San Jose Mercury News reports.

Berrospe -- 50 at the time of her death in 1984 -- was found beneath a bush on Highway 237 in Sunnyvale. McCune, 61 at the time of her death, was found under dried leaves near a Highway 101 on-ramp in San Jose.

Both victims were strangled and sexually assaulted. Perez is connected to an unnamed San Francisco murder as well.

Police in San Jose pulled the murders from their cold case files and started reworking them. They searched databases for DNA samples and got a match.
