7 in Netherlands accused of terror plot

THE HAGUE, Netherlands, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Police in the Netherlands arrested seven suspected terrorists and sealed off government buildings Friday.

One of the suspects, Samir Azzouz -- a teenage Dutch citizen of Moroccan descent -- was acquitted in April of similar charges, the BBC reported.

The arrests came a day after death threats against two members of Parliament, Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Geert Wilders, who are both critics of radical Islam. Both went into hiding after the assassination of filmmaker Theo Van Gogh.

Police placed additional security around Binnenhof Castle in The Hague -- where the prime minister has his office -- and other government buildings.

The other suspects are described as five men and one woman, all between the ages of 18 and 30. They were arrested in raids in The Hague, Amsterdam and Alsmeer.

The Netherlands has been on a terrorism alert since the London Transport bombings in July.
