Yemeni court acquit ex-Iraqi officers

SANAA, Yemen, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- A Yemeni court Monday acquitted four former Iraqi officers from a charge of planning to bomb the U.S. and British embassies in Sanaa.

Judge Mohammed Baadani said no evidence was found authenticating the accusations of the public prosecutor that the four belonged to the intelligence apparatus of the former Baath regime of ousted President Saddam Hussein.

He said no proof was provided that the Iraqis planned to bomb U.S. and British interests in Yemen and that three of them were given the right to reside in Yemen and reunite with their families in line with the laws governing the residence of Arab nationals.
