MOSCOW, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin promises up-to-date weapons for the army, including "practically invulnerable" supersonic missiles.

Putin, in a meeting with members of the public, was responding to a question on when the country would start equipping its army instead of selling weapons abroad, Mosnews reported. The president said that the country already spends more on arms for its soldiers than it makes from the arms trade.

"A great deal has been done in the past few years to restore the defense industry's financial health," Putin said.

Putin said that selling arms abroad also supports Russia's defense by making its arms industry healthier.
